I have gone ahead and renewed this domain for another two years ensuring I am able to post my wisdom to the Internet for years to come. I know it didn’t expire until Jan. 2009, but I didn’t want to have the problems then of renewing it before it went into no-where land.

The 2008 World Series

Posted by Shane

Lets just say I am shocked. I would have never bet that the Tampa Bay Rays would be playing against the Philadelphia Phillies. Two teams who odds in Las Vegas were at the start of the season 300 to 1 come to the ultimate show-down in baseball match up. The two teams I predicted that would be going to the series after the fall of both my ALDS picks again way wrong — thinking that it would be Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Boston Red Sox’s.

Granted the Red Sox’s held off the Rays to Game 7 of the ALCS, it is nothing like their come back in 2004 when the were down 3-0 to my Yankees, winning in the end in Game 7 and going on to win the World Series in 2004 and again 2006. For a few days, I thought the Red Sox’s would be heading back going to go for a third World Series title. Boston would have gone nuts. No matter what, all games played in the World Series are going to be in the East Coast time zone.

This year is tough pick to choose the winner. I’m just going to watch the game and not make any predictions this time around. They are both solid teams. Congrats to the Rays and Phillies on an excellent regular season.

W: Enjoyable

So I went to go see “W.” Saturday, and I was very impressed with Oliver Stone very neutral view on George W. Bush’s Presidency. Now granted it was very fake in who the players were, but it gave a pretty accurate portrayal on what has happened for the past eight years in the White House. I recommend people see this movie and not just Democrats, but Republicans as well.

Rating: 6 out of 10.

So I don’t know how many you know that I use three machines, not all on a daily basis, but at lest two I do.

  1. IBM ThnkPad
  2. Dell XPS M1530 (Non-Blu Ray)
  3. Customized Desktop

So last night I went to turn on my Dell XPS and I accidentally pressed the Media Direct button. I knew that it brought up a special program that allowed you to play DVDs and look at pictures without booting into the full thing of Visita. What I didn’t know then what I know now is that the Media Direct is corrupt. Since it’s stored on a hidden partition that you really can’t access it tough to make changes to the settings. So when I went to turn it off, my Dell kept booting into the Media Direct. I got really frustrated and after searching online for a boot cd that I could use to reset the Master Boot Record (MBR) I found one that worked. Now I know how to use these programs, but when I went to change the active partition back to Vista, things started getting more our of whack. Go figure.

So I had to end up putting in my Dell Restore CD’s last night to see if Vista can fix the problem without having to re-install everything. Afraid not. So I started the restore this morning at 8am when I woke up ever so briefly, and started the restore processes. As of this moment of me typing this all to you, Windows is doing it’s Windows Updates. It was very easy to restore and install the drivers on the discs Dell provides for you and on top of that, it even saved my programing directory. So I just gotta install the TortoiseSVN extension so I can read it. In the end, the Dell starts up much faster because I was able to not install the Dell Software suite fully and just install the software I wanted. The last thing I have to do is install the webcam software and then my anti-virus. Then everything will be as good as new!

World of Goo

Posted by Shane

A neat 2D game called World of Goo was released on Steam recently. While my gaming time has gone down, I was surfing the Steam news to see what was going on. I saw something called World of Goo. So I watched the trailier and everything. I checked out to see if there was a demo on their website, and there was so I download it. Now after playing the demo I am hooked!

I went ahead and made our current development version 1.3.8 into the new stable release. This version introduces a few major things.

  1. Translation support. You may look in the Woopra forums for the current version of the file needed to translate the plugin into different languages. Once we start getting some translation files back, we will release them in-mass. Look at the I18n for WordPress Developers on the WordPress codex for more translation information.
  2. The plugin has been tested all the way up to the current development version of WordPress (2.7.0 alpha)

Once we get enough translations, we will add them to the mix and start releasing the plugin with translation batches and support.
