I was telling someone about the header that I was working on and they gave me another name: The Doodle

Just like the Google Doodles, this doodle is always changing and since it’s based on time it works out! As you can in the current version of the header (of this post) the doodle is now showing the sun and the sun will set and the color gradients will change based on when the sun shows up based on my location here Brooklyn, NY until I feel the geolocation code works correctly. Neat huh? I’ll be publishing a case study of how the code works in the near future as one of the on-going series of posts that I will write.

So for now, enjoy the doodle, and look forward to even more improvements!

The Header

Posted by Shane

So with the new found technologies of CSS3 gradients, etc. and the re-launch of this site, I been working on converting my header that was originally flash to CSS3/Javascript/jQuery. This way the header (if you remember) that is based on your location (if you shared that information) changes to the right “time of day” and will for every second change (as time does) based on the actual timer periods of your location. read more ‘The Header

I started my journey back in NY after being in MN for over a year. I came back to NY with a goal. To take, pass, and become a certified Cisco Engineer. Today I can say only one thing…

So I am a little paranoid. Everyone has the right to be and depending on the content of the messages and the sensitivity of the message you may want to encrypt them so they are secure and only your designated receipt is allowed to read them. So this little tutorial that I am putting together will help you get started on your “digital signature” so your messages either over email or IM are protected from unwanted eyes.

This tutorial should be good for both Unix, Windows, and Apple user’s although I am writing this as if you were a Windows user. read more ‘Need Encryption in your Life?

Well.. it didn’t take long for it to happen, but I can let you know that it was not my fault. My DroidX came with software version 2.3.151 on it. At the beginning of this month 2.3.340 came out. When I initially got the phone, I checked for software updates, but none existed. Go figure. Anyways, the update for 2.3.340 is looking for 2.3.15 version of the O/S for it to upgrade correctly. *doh* This is what I call major programing flaws. So while reading online on how to do it, I was able to update to .320 and then I was able to do the OTA update to .340.

Just goes to show you that not all programing is created equally and everything has flaws in it!

Header is now CSS3/HTML5

Posted by Shane

I get a lot of complements on my flash header. Particularly the second by second update of the “gradient tween” that goes between that syncs up with the real time of day. So as you are reading this now, look at the header on my site (Flash enabled?). Does the time period pretty much match what is outside at the moment? It should be pretty close to what your experiencing outside.

This 24-loop header is great because you also see the stars “rise” and “set”, different seasons, and even the animated butterflies that pop out during the summer time. Overall the header is the most advanced thing that I can find on the web that does this type of animation. There is one catch to viewing this header: You have to have flash enabled and/or be on a flash compatible device. Do’h!

A Year Long Semi-Sabbatical

Posted by Shane

Since last November, I been wanting to accomplish my goals in life and I tried to do it while maintaining my responsibilities to the online community in which I adore being part of. With that said though it’s been 7 months since then and I am no where close to accomplishing my goals due to the fact my current job had a wacky work schedule, which has now pretty much normalized since I been up here in Minnesota, but still very crazy indeed. There are sacrifices I need to make in order for the goals to happen.

I can say right off the bat that I am not leaving the WordPress Core Contributor Group, I am just making adjustments to my other commitments that are the real slow downs in my goals.
