I spent the good part of the day installing and updating the FrakMedia! Network Servers with PHP 5.3.0. That also including updating all the other sites that are on the server, but one of the more important things for me here on this site is WordPress and the ability to use SSH2 as the transfer protocol for plugins, core, and themes.

PECL by default if you were trying the ‘pecl install ssh2-beta‘ command you get an error message saying that it doesn’t work. Duh!

But as usual the system was broken. So it took now ~12 hours for me to find and get it fixed. However, I had to do some heavy searching in order get it to work and I am going to give it out right now on how to get it working!

Another day.. another innovation over here at the rabbit hole and for other WordPress blogs a-like.

One of the things I started dreading when I first started this blog again back in July 2008 is that eventually that archives ‘By Month’ list and categories list was going to get so long that it was going to be lopsided and lots of items really make the site look “longer” than it really was when it comes to the vertical scroll bars.

What I needed to do now since both the Archives and the Categories list was getting to long, I wanted to shorten them up, but still allowing the user (that’s you..) to be able to still be able to browse all the available archives months and categories without having to view the full archives view.

The Update Story

Posted by Shane

Last night folks, I went ahead and updated my desktop system to include my parts from the Intel Big Deal and the DDR3 RAM I had ordered just a few days after receiving the Big Deal (original post). This was not a very hard install for me, but it did take a few “extra” hours for me to complete the installation of both software and hardware due to the minor hiccups that we all have with technology.

Aptana Version 1.5.0

Posted by Shane

My favorite PHP authoring software has come out with a new version: 1.5.0. This version includes 64-bit support something I will be going to very shortly. Get it here. This is probably the best software I have ever used for PHP writing.

The parts of the 2009 Intel Big Deal - June

My desktop.. even though I built this on on March of 2007 is already out-dated. The P4 and DDR2 RAM was at the end of it’s cycle when I built it. So I got the worst possible setup, but didn’t realize it right away. About 9 months to a year later there was already duel core and quad core being introduced into the market as the standard.

Today most new machines are all duel core or quad core. The new chip that is going to be the new standard pretty soon. 8 cores. DDR3. No machine will be completed without DDR3 RAM. I will be awaiting till July once the DDR3 RAM becomes the new standard and the prices will drop and drop….

What price am I getting these for? A little over $300. This price comes directly from Intel. One of the offers they were throwing in is that you get the full Windows Vista 64-bit OS with a free voucher for Windows 7 64-bit.

As the RAM comes in… I’ll be looking into getting duel video cards for SLI support. Maybe the NVIDIA GeForce 200 series cards. I also be looking into fully water cooling my system with pumps and everything.
