I was telling someone about the header that I was working on and they gave me another name: The Doodle

Just like the Google Doodles, this doodle is always changing and since it’s based on time it works out! As you can in the current version of the header (of this post) the doodle is now showing the sun and the sun will set and the color gradients will change based on when the sun shows up based on my location here Brooklyn, NY until I feel the geolocation code works correctly. Neat huh? I’ll be publishing a case study of how the code works in the near future as one of the on-going series of posts that I will write.

So for now, enjoy the doodle, and look forward to even more improvements!

The Header

Posted by Shane

So with the new found technologies of CSS3 gradients, etc. and the re-launch of this site, I been working on converting my header that was originally flash to CSS3/Javascript/jQuery. This way the header (if you remember) that is based on your location (if you shared that information) changes to the right “time of day” and will for every second change (as time does) based on the actual timer periods of your location. read more ‘The Header

1157 Days Later….

Wow. It seems like for a long time I been posting nothing other than posts saying how long ago I post. Hopefully, this will be the last one of those for a long time. Lets see if I can give a summary of what I been doing these past 1157 days because if I went over everything that I did from the last time I posted… in detail… I might get things wrong. But here it goes!

Steel Metallic goes Green

Posted by Shane

So it’s been about two months since I posted here that I was leaving Best Buy, and I have left for a job as a full time Network Engineer. I am having a blast, but I been operating like it’s 2001 with my old Subaru forester that I had since May/June 2000. This car was a graduation present from High School. So it was time for a major upgrade it being 2011. Since I had never made a huge purchase like buying a new car, it’s been a fun experience and I like to share it with you.

The project that I been working on for over a year with the Best Buy Retail Web Development team has finally finished. I completed the project yesterday in-fact at 3pm right before I had to head for the airport and board a plane back for NY. I had spent over 60+ hours for the past 4 weeks getting the projected finalized and working into a state that it can be used for the company in whole. I have in the past created “websites”, but this website project was no ordinary project. Minus the ExtJS framework that I used for the administration side, I did however write all the Javascript, PHP5 code, and HTML code used for the site in order for it to work. In the end there was more than 12,000 lines of code from start to finish and over 100+ images (mostly icons) used for the site in order to convey what the team wanted in the end.

Due to a technical problem in a plugin that controls registrations, I have disabled registration globally until it can be fixed. Not many of you registry anyways, but it’s good to announce it that it is happening.
