Lets just say I am shocked. I would have never bet that the Tampa Bay Rays would be playing against the Philadelphia Phillies. Two teams who odds in Las Vegas were at the start of the season 300 to 1 come to the ultimate show-down in baseball match up. The two teams I predicted that would be going to the series after the fall of both my ALDS picks again way wrong — thinking that it would be Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Boston Red Sox’s.

Granted the Red Sox’s held off the Rays to Game 7 of the ALCS, it is nothing like their come back in 2004 when the were down 3-0 to my Yankees, winning in the end in Game 7 and going on to win the World Series in 2004 and again 2006. For a few days, I thought the Red Sox’s would be heading back going to go for a third World Series title. Boston would have gone nuts. No matter what, all games played in the World Series are going to be in the East Coast time zone.

This year is tough pick to choose the winner. I’m just going to watch the game and not make any predictions this time around. They are both solid teams. Congrats to the Rays and Phillies on an excellent regular season.

It’s only been a week since I posted my October baseball predictions, so lets recap what I got wrong and what I got right.

I am an avid baseball fan, but this is the first time in 17 years that no New York team has made it to the post-season. The Yankees were eliminated long before their season ending win over the Boston Red Sox’s, but the Mets succumbed to the wrath of Red October Baseball with another September collapse, losing a must win over the Florida Marlins to ensure a tie over the Milwaukee Brewers, who have now claimed the NL Wild Card crown. A tie would have forced a one game showdown at Shea Stadium for the NL Wild Card Crown. Only one spot in the Post Season has yet to be filled and that is between the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox.

I’m going to break down my predictions right now and wrap up of the Yankee season.

Update: The White Sox’s won the game vs. Tigers which forces the Sox and Twins in a one game playoff!

Update 2: The White Sox’s did win the game vs. Twins! So far I am correct! :D

September 4, 2008 | MLB Uses Instant Reply

Last night during the Yankees game they used for first time instant reply to decided if a ball hit by Alex Rodriguez was a home run or not. The ball from perpectice looked like it hit in fair terriotory behind the yellow foul line. The umpires for two minutes went behind the dugout and contacted MLB.com technicians. When they came back they ruled it was a home run. Now Baseball is now offically going to be fair to all teams and there will be no more 1999 World Series disputes. If you remember, a fan plucked the ball from the air making it a home run instead of making it an out.

August 22, 2008 | IOC to investigate China Girls Age

Just as I was settling down to head to bed and watching the US Men Volleyball team win the gold (like the US Women did a day earlier) a breaking news story from the games came up. the IOC is investigating the ages of the girls on the china’s Gymnastics team which won the gold all-team event and the gold in the uneven bars due to the tie breaking rules that are in place in the Olympics.

This story will be closely followed by everyone, but in my mind they are younger than the required age of 16. The look 13 through 15 at least no where close to the required age. This was an unexpected turn around since the IOC had said earlier that they were all of age during and after the gymnastics events.

Tonight is the official start of the Summer 2008 Olympics in Beijing. It will be very interesting to see how everyone does with the poor air quality. I still think the US will dominate the medal count. However, we will not know until the first medal events happen at the games.

One of the first of special headers are now displayed! Good luck to all athletes! You are already winners!

I was watching the last half of the NYY vs. TEX game live on MLB.com and it was the bottom of the 9th. Bases were loaded. Next batter… walk-off grand slam. Game over. 9-5 TEX. VAB!

P.S. I was mad!
