Leaving Best Buy

Posted by Shane

This one is real short. I am leaving Best Buy for greater pastures to pursue my ever growing career in Network Engineering. Best Buy has given three years of tremendous support. I have no problems with the company and I am grateful for everything they have done for me and more.

The project that I been working on for over a year with the Best Buy Retail Web Development team has finally finished. I completed the project yesterday in-fact at 3pm right before I had to head for the airport and board a plane back for NY. I had spent over 60+ hours for the past 4 weeks getting the projected finalized and working into a state that it can be used for the company in whole. I have in the past created “websites”, but this website project was no ordinary project. Minus the ExtJS framework that I used for the administration side, I did however write all the Javascript, PHP5 code, and HTML code used for the site in order for it to work. In the end there was more than 12,000 lines of code from start to finish and over 100+ images (mostly icons) used for the site in order to convey what the team wanted in the end.

Tis the Season of Joy

Posted by Shane

Hey everyone. Long time, no post, but I been in NY for back over the month working again at the store and let me tell you knowing from how things happen at Corporate and how it filters down to the stores is amazing. It didn’t take me that long to re-acclimate myself with the store operations. I think the thing I missed the most was the untied lunches. Oh well.

Though it’s the holiday season work is going good. Usually I am pretty quiet around this time online, but I gotta say that I am thankful for a full-time job as we know most of the country is looking for part-time and full-time work, I had this full-time spot barley at the last minute when it was offered, I took it just to get my foot in the door. Things can only go up from here.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I will talk to you all soon!

On the way back home…

Posted by Shane

Tonight is my last night in good ol’ Minnesota. For the past 8 months I been up here working with the Best Buy Retail Web Development team, part of the overall Communications Team for the entire US Store Operations, as a paid-intern/paid-corperate employee working on website design and other fun projects.

With all the ups and downs I have had personally while up here it’s still been a challenge and it’s hard even though I lived away from home since I was 12 years old.

This experience I had gained from this work and the amount of confidence that I have in myself has really been boosted in a way that I know that I have the stuff that Fortune 500 Companies are looking for in a decided hard working programmer. I have gotten nothing but compliments today from the entire leadership team within my department and the co-workers I work with. I said my good byes to all the full-time corporate employees who I grown to be good friends with and will take the experience of what goes on in the Corporate world back to my store and in life to better help people.

If things turn out good, I will be back up here starting in January 2011 to help out with more projects and help inspire others that anyone can make a difference.

Thanks Minnesota for all the fish!

I spent the past 30 days and nights in Minnesota working on my internship with Best Buy Corporate. Wow. I can tell you I had a great time over the past 30 days doing programing full time and hanging out with other programers who are as savy as myself. It’s not over yet! I am slated to be back in Minnesota after brief break from being away from NY for such a long time. I am going to be home for the next week catching up of being with people, celerbrating my birthday, and also heading to a wedding in Boston. read more ‘30 Days and Nights, Sounds Like A Movie, but Life
