Well.. not mine. Mine is not until May 3rd, but today was one of my co-workers and now friend birthday. The oldest member of the retail development team (minus our Manager).

At the office we had a cake and cupcakes all day for eating in our area. We didn’t each much because programmers I seem to notice never really eat and code/design while we are doing work. It’s that tunnel coding we do when we feel the grove of the code just pouring out. During that time between our lunch and us leaving for the day, I met again another Geek Squad Agent from the field who was visiting corporate for two days and this time I met him at our work space. Very cool dude.

From Left to Right: Jason (Not Seen), Nick, Kevin, Courtland, Blake, Me, Shaun, Juliano (Took Picture), and Vinc

After we left work, we headed for dinner. We went to a local Hibachi restaurant for dinner and that was tons of fun. Our cook did a real good job of entertaining us during our time, but we had a great time during the routine birthday celebration. We had seen it as we were walking in because this place seems to attract all the birthday’s due to atmosphere, so we knew when it happened to Blake that it was going to be funny.

Blake with the Mask

I am cracking up on the right. After that we headed back to the hotel to enjoy some time and we did head down to the bar for some drinks. Overall it was a pretty fun time!

Again, Happy Birthday Blake! 30 is just another number and don’t let it bring your fun down!

Tonight, after bring back the groceries, the batch of eggs that I got to make Eggs Benedict at a later date was accelerated because most of the eggs broke on the way back to the apartment. So tonight I sped up my cooking Eggs Benedict — for dinner. So lets get started on what happened. (No pictures this time, but next time after I am doing this I will take some snapshots of the final product.)

First I worked on the sauce.

Butter

Water/Milk

Hollandaise Powder

2 to 4 Eggs — Preferred white

Melting the butter with the water and milk was easy. Adding the powder created an interesting mix since you can not put to much powder in at the same time. While pouring the powder in you have to use a whisk and mix it up. Without allowing it to go to a full boil, you have to make it get thick so the sauce is really a sauce and not a soup. Not an easy task. Once thick, remove from the stove and let it cool on non-active heating surface. If the sauce to cool before you place it on your eggs and muffins, nuke it up in the microwave for 10 seconds — no more and it would be ruined. After you have this step done, you can move onto the bacon and muffins.

Eggs Benedict with Bacon

Cook your type of bacon and toast your muffins. Not a requirement, but it does taste better with bacon and toasted muffins. I prefer muffins not cooked. Just as the muffins are about to be done cooking start working on the eggs themselves.

Get a poached egg cooking dish. This is a very useful tool. I had gotten one during afternoon shopping that could cook four, but I only had two this evening. After placing the whole egg in the little cups you go ahead and let the water below it boil. A tip: Use PAM on your cooking item where the eggs are placed. Makes cleaning easier. Watch the eggs and as soon as you see the white part of the egg, they are then done.

Take them off and place it on top of your bacon (which should be on your muffins) and then pour the hollandiasie sauce on top. Presto! You now are having Eggs Benedict. I’ll post some finished shots on this post once I do it again, which will be fairly soon since it was very good even though I messed up on cooking the eggs just a tad long that the yellow part of the egg was like a boiled egg. Which tasted fine, but it’s better when it’s runny.

Eggs Benedict covered with Hollandaise Sauce

Update: Pictures are from my second attempt — a bit better — but just as good.

I spent the better part of the day today in NYC with my sister. As I said in my previous post, I went to the Yankee game today.

The day game of the double header because of the rain postponement yesterday canceled that game. My sister has some great nosebleed seats and you can see the field great. The game was a problem. The Yankees lost 7 to 1 getting the only run in the bottom of the 9th inning. And this was against the Tampa Bay Rays! (Though.. we are in 4th place and they are in 1st. Go figure.) They Yankees did win the night cap, but I was already back home by the time the game ended.

After the game we went out to dinner to a Mexican restaurant on 81st and 2nd ave called Blockheads. I give this place 4 thumbs up. I had the chicken casadias, large portion, and gobbled it quickly.

I have pictures, that is, I have to wait for them from my sister. That’s about it! I’ll be heading back down to VA Monday night to get the rest of my stuff. I have more good news that I will post up Monday.
