I started my return trip back to NY Thursday morning in St. Paul, MN. For my return trip back home I decided to go “non-traditional” in my travel plans opting for the more scenic route. I started this leg back in NY in the start of the month flying back to MN for my last 3.5 weeks in MN. But for the ride back I wanted to go the good ol’ scenic route taking in the sights. Here I come Amtrak! And as you might have guess… I am back home in NY for a while.

On the way back home…

Posted by Shane

Tonight is my last night in good ol’ Minnesota. For the past 8 months I been up here working with the Best Buy Retail Web Development team, part of the overall Communications Team for the entire US Store Operations, as a paid-intern/paid-corperate employee working on website design and other fun projects.

With all the ups and downs I have had personally while up here it’s still been a challenge and it’s hard even though I lived away from home since I was 12 years old.

This experience I had gained from this work and the amount of confidence that I have in myself has really been boosted in a way that I know that I have the stuff that Fortune 500 Companies are looking for in a decided hard working programmer. I have gotten nothing but compliments today from the entire leadership team within my department and the co-workers I work with. I said my good byes to all the full-time corporate employees who I grown to be good friends with and will take the experience of what goes on in the Corporate world back to my store and in life to better help people.

If things turn out good, I will be back up here starting in January 2011 to help out with more projects and help inspire others that anyone can make a difference.

Thanks Minnesota for all the fish!

So I thought I give you all an update. I am still traveling back and forth between NY to MN for work, working on web design and other related Best Buy/Geek Squad issues. It has been frustrating to say the least to fly back every two weeks. I am meeting tons of new people while in Minnesota. Starting tomorrow I will be staying for an entire month, but I was allowed to have the entire week off from April 30 through May 10th. It just so happens that it falls during my birthday. I also have a wedding to attend to in Boston that week, so it works out perfectly.

Square Pizza Slices

Posted by Shane

We went to a very cool pizza place to have dinner tonight, but when our personal pizza’s came out… the slices were squares. I was warned about this from a fellow Geek Squad agent  — who I met here in Minnesota — was originally from NY and told me to prepare for this ‘weirdness’. And it was weird. Anyway.. that’s it. Just like to point that out.

Back in MN already…

Boy was the weekend quick! So I am back here for two weeks until the 2nd… fly back… and then fly back on the 5th. However, after the 5th I am staying up for the month since it’s crazy for me to fly back.

A few things to talk about later… but for now after my day.. 4am awake in NYC (5am but 4am from MN time) it’s been pretty close to 14 hours.

Back home.. for two days.

Posted by Shane

Last night around 10pm (NY time) my plane arrived back home in NY. After a long two weeks at our headquarters getting setup and starting our project in the last few days, the excitement of doing the work and being on the corporate campus is nothing like being inside the store.

Our development group is very tight. We all have meals together and do fun activities together and no one is left out if they want to do something. In the area there is tons of things to do and it’s pretty close to a new thing each night. There is not a lot of time after we leave work. We aren’t there to party. On the weekend it’s pretty much do what you need to do. We have access to our workspace during the weekend so some of us head there to do work because the hotel is to cramped and distracting.

In all… this is win! So for today and tomorrow it’s just relaxation. While I am here in NY, I must complete my taxes so I can do them. Till next time…
