I started my return trip back to NY Thursday morning in St. Paul, MN. For my return trip back home I decided to go “non-traditional” in my travel plans opting for the more scenic route. I started this leg back in NY in the start of the month flying back to MN for my last 3.5 weeks in MN. But for the ride back I wanted to go the good ol’ scenic route taking in the sights. Here I come Amtrak! And as you might have guess… I am back home in NY for a while.

I am moving out of my apartment in NY for a couple of reasons. The first one is that I am not here as much now with my internship with Best Buy in Minnesota. So why pay for an apartment when I am never here? Anyway while I was going through things to move out (minus clothes which they are all now packed in the car) I realized I had collected a lot of odd computer equipment over the years and today I went through it all and sorted what I wanted to keep and what was to throw away. This doesn’t count the stuff that I know is already at mom’s that I am already keeping.

The criteria for keeping it has to follow certain guidelines:

  • Could it contain private information?
  • Does this serve a purpose with the current technology trend?
  • Is it working in a state that I would use it on a daily basis?

If any one of these questions were answered ‘yes’, then I kept it. If not… well… it saw the dump.

My week in NY

Posted by Shane

I been in NY for a little over a week now and it’s going to come to a quick end tomorrow when I fly back to MN for work. (The time I have to be ready for my ride in the morning is at 4:20am tomorrow. ugh). In any case I have had a great time, and as you see from my posts this past week I was able to do a lot. But it seems as always, what I set out to do this week didn’t happen.

Square Pizza Slices

Posted by Shane

We went to a very cool pizza place to have dinner tonight, but when our personal pizza’s came out… the slices were squares. I was warned about this from a fellow Geek Squad agent  — who I met here in Minnesota — was originally from NY and told me to prepare for this ‘weirdness’. And it was weird. Anyway.. that’s it. Just like to point that out.

Back home.. for two days.

Posted by Shane

Last night around 10pm (NY time) my plane arrived back home in NY. After a long two weeks at our headquarters getting setup and starting our project in the last few days, the excitement of doing the work and being on the corporate campus is nothing like being inside the store.

Our development group is very tight. We all have meals together and do fun activities together and no one is left out if they want to do something. In the area there is tons of things to do and it’s pretty close to a new thing each night. There is not a lot of time after we leave work. We aren’t there to party. On the weekend it’s pretty much do what you need to do. We have access to our workspace during the weekend so some of us head there to do work because the hotel is to cramped and distracting.

In all… this is win! So for today and tomorrow it’s just relaxation. While I am here in NY, I must complete my taxes so I can do them. Till next time…

Today was our last day in Deer Valley. *cries* This mountain was fabulous the 3 days I visited it. Since it was our last day in Deer Valley and we could do it, myself and my sister skied over 25,000 vertical feet (26,790 was the actual vertical feet). This is a little over 5 miles of skiing in one day. My legs hurt until I got in the hot tub back in the condo.

To do this we had to ditch mom after lunch to ski hard and fast to take the flagstaff mountain lifts up 8 times to go 25,000 vertical feet. We only got in 7 rides up before the lift closed so we ended up doing the ski school lift once to get the extra feet needed. While we were coming back down from the flagstaff peek, we caught up with mom who finished our journey. read more ‘In Mr. Burns Voice: Excellent

My Poor Jets

Posted by Shane

I know this is already a few days old, but I am really sad to see my NY Jets loose the AFC Championship Game. I am very proud they did very well this year which makes me believe they can do even better next year!  Playing against the Colts is really hard, and the Jets did not make it easy for them in the 1st half of the game.
