Today is the first meetup of 2010 for WordPress NYC Meetup Group. Registration was open for 3 weeks so if you are just finding about this now, sorry. I have been tweeting about it. The event happens tonight at 6:30pm at 101 Park Ave at the Sun Microsystems Building.

The last location from what I was told could not hold more than 20 people. This place has the capacity of 100 and for this meetup alone there is going to be 70+ people. A lot of them are going to be from the group that came to WordCamp NYC 2009 this past November, so it will be exciting to see everyone once again.

I myself with be doing a very short presentation (timed to under 10 minutes) with a Q&A session on WordPress 3.0 Development thus far and run the Genius bar after the main presentation is done which is ‘Zoom in with “AutoFocus”‘.

That’s about it! Be sure to bring your laptops. There is WiFi during the session and you will need it for my presentation. Only for two things. I’ll be sure to post the presentation here on the site after the conference. Follow tweets from the event using the #wpnyc hash tag.

That’s about it! Tweet me if you want to hang out before Meetup. I am heading to the city early to hang out.

One thing that was very cool since we already knew almost everyone background meeting everyone was just like lets continue this conversation we been having for years.

At the end of the 2nd day we all got together (the core contributors) to the WordPress code for a group shot. I think it’s the biggest group yet.

You can find who is who by checking out the WordPress blog post below. Props to Chris Cochran for the great photo. He caught me with my eyes open.

It’s a sad day, but also a day to rejoice! WordCamp NYC 2009 is officially over and I just wanted it to continue all week. But if that was the case, registration would be like $500. Two days was good enough.

The second day was pretty much in Mason Hall (for me at least). There was unconference sessions going on where we were in the main classroom complex yesterday. For those who want a listing can go here.

The first things that went on today was the plugin completion where people had to submit themes/plugins before WordCamp NYC 2009 and there would be a winner from each group. Well… there was only two themes, but they were both unique and good they both won. Congrats to them!

The plugins in the finals were:

WP Manage Plugins

Badge Grab

Spur conversations

Check out the page for a description of each, but the winner in the end was the ‘Spur Conversation’ plugin. Minus the security flaw Mark Jaquith found it the plugin it was a great idea for spurring conversations from topics. Next there was 3 rounds of lighting fast presentations of most sessions that were covered in Saturday’s sessions.

Mark, one of the lead developers on WordPress, covered the new things in WordPress 2.9 (which if you do not know… it’s “BETA 1″ now.). One of the most “clapped” about new features was oEmbed by ViperBond007. As soon as that happened, I think at least 30+ tweets went out. I know I did.

Matt Mullenweg finished up with a Q and A session with everyone. It went really well and a lot of questions he covered were a lot related the the future of WordPress and then also the major topics of this WordCamp: Themes, GPL, and Open Source.

At the end, myself and the other 9 other core contributors to the main core of the code (Including Jane and Matt) posed for a picture. I think it’s the single biggest non-automattic meeting of WordPress devs. It was awesomeness.

After leaving back for home, my car battery had died! I called AAA and also found out why my “desktop” was offline for most of the weekend:

Windows 7 Fail

That’s it! Be sure to follow me here on the blog and twitter! I have to thank Jane and Steve for there great work. The event went smooth and no real problems ever emerged. Minus us devs totally ditching the hackers room.

P.S. WordCamp NYC 2009 has made me want to get a Mac Book Pro 15″.

Today (or tonight since I am posting this at night) was the first/end of Day One of WordCamp NYC 2009. This was also my first ever WordCamp. I was really physic. I left my friend’s place on Roosevelt Island around 6:45am hitching the “F” line to 23rd and 6th Avenue.

Once I got off I was really confused on where I was because I was not used to being in that location. With the sun not out as well… it was really hard to determine the points of the compass. After finding someone else who was also looking for Baruch College on 23rd and Lex. After we got another set of directions, we were on our way. A few minutes later I arrived at the registration area for WordCamp NYC 2009!

As I was awaiting the registration room to be open, I hung out with Campers who been gathering. about 15 minutes later the registration room doors opened and we piled in and going our name badges and our WordCamp bags with T-shirts. Bags and the T-shirt were perfect and great. After awaiting a few minutes for Mr. Jonathan Dingman (aka Dingman) and wanting a seat in the first AM session and Dingman not showing up I went up staris to secure two seats. Dingman showed up a while after we tried to meet up in the lobby. I skipped the Opening Remarks and went right to my first session in the Advanced Development track: Elastic by Daryl Koopersmith.

After that, myself and Dingman went down to see the start of Mark Jaquith’s presentation on “Feeding Family” session where we also met up with Matt Martz (aka Sivel) and a few other people who’s name escape me at the moment headed to Sivel’s session where he was given a lecture on Intermediate Plugin Development. (He had some problems with is own script during the giveaway.) After that I went on my own and headed off with a fellow developer (who again escapes my mind) and talked about media integration on the way the Genius Bar. On the way, I bumped into Jeffro Chandler of WPTavern. We talked for a little bit before he went his way and I went to the Genius Bar to do some networking.

Lunch time!
