Since way back in the day when I created my multiple gallery support as a test bed to see if it can be done, I started getting feedback that the whole media system of WordPress (Insert Version Number Here) is very primitive with today’s technology in:

  • Functionally
  • Process
  • Use

Three things WordPress prides itself on when it comes to use and expandability. Why can’t we have a media system with the same easy use? Well… I thought long and hard for the past 6 months when the WordPress team decided to roll out the 2.7.x WordPress Wireframe document. 8 days later I came out with my multiple gallery support code that was to say very messy and interrupted most of WordPress “grace”. And course this was all way before I added SSH support into the system.  So I ditched that code and wanted to start fresh with a freah idea for the whole system.

Once the 2.8.x development started I went AWOL for pretty much 4 months of clear cut no programing. So fast forward to today. The release of my proposed Media Management System for the 2.9.x line. I spent many months without talking or what the status was and talked to a few developer privaily on the direction I was taking it. But after a while I got a pretty good picture on how I envisioned a very updated a slick Media Management System for WordPress. I already gotten some positive feedback from some of the top developers in the #wordpress-dev channel and from others who use WordPress as well. And without having to explain myself twice I give you the PDF document that tells all. Enjoy!

Yes. This is the first post on my blog in over 4 months. What have I been doing? I been working like a whore that I am. 😀 There is even so many changes to the official release of 2.7.1 that I had to get rid of the production copy that I had on this server with my multiple gallery support. I did remove that feature from my site so posts that had it, will function a little weird right now. They are very old posts so I don’t seem them becoming a problem right now. More on this later. So… you are wondering why I am posted again after 4 months? Well… I will tell you a story.

Media Design for 2.8

Posted by Shane

Not more than 48 hours after the launch of version 2.7, that myself and DD32 have already started on ideas on how to upgrade the current attachment and media system for WordPress. He has sent me his version of what I was trying to do by hacking the base code really far to make it work. Since I got his code just today, I will be started to work on it with the new 2.8.x bleeding trunk that now has started.

Just a reminder that this will be no where in the 2.7.x code, but only in the 2.8.x code unless it becomes really stable during development and testing.

Beta 1

Posted by Shane

After a long summer and fall, Beta 1 of WordPress 2.7.0 is out and ready for testing. This is not intended for production use, however, we feel that it’s stable enough for you to place on your production blog with minimal impact. Be sure to backup your blog if you are going to do it in-case anything goes wrong, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. The release date of Nov. 11 is been pushed back to be now the Release Candidate date. We are not targeting a end of November release date.

I like to give props out to Ryan, Jane, Westi, ViperBond, DD32, Azaozz, Mark Jaquith, and last but not least Matt for letting me part of the team in this round. Hopefully when working on 2.8 I can help in a bigger way with my attachment system with multiple gallery support worked on as a team. :)

A few days ago I released 1.4.0.3 which fixes a few problems with the updated way the javascript code reads host names. Sub-domains now work and that has been taken into effect. You no longer need a ‘woopra_site_id’ and that has been removed from this version. I just did a triple check because people were reporting that error. There is a 1.4.1, but it has not been coded yet. If yours says 1.4.1 right now, download 1.4.0.3 from here. We are replacing the flash file for better capabilities. It will be another week or so before 1.4.1 is released. It will be after the WordPress 2.7 release.

For those looking for an update in the vBulletin version, I am working on it. I just haven’t had time to do that yet as I am working on WordPress 2.7 release at the moment.
